Who participates in Steps for Life walks?
Families who have suffered from a workplace fatality, life-altering injury or occupational disease walk along side employers and employees who have signed up as Corporate Challengers. Health and safety professionals, ministry of labour inspectors, managers, workers, local mayors and councilors and many others walk to raise awareness about the importance of all Canadians returning home at the end of their work day and to support those less fortunate.
You can participate by registering to walk, volunteering, attending to support the walk or sponsor a walker. Everyone is welcome!
How can I register as a participant? (Registration for 2012 is coming soon!)
To participate in Steps for Life, you must register as a(n):
1. Individual(s) (includes family registrations)
Individuals who wish to participate in Steps for Life and register as a sole participant, couple, or as a family. See registration rates for details.
2. Rally Team
Steps for Life teams have a new name: “Rally Teams”. A Rally Team can accommodate a team of up to 10 participants. See registration rates for details.
The Corporate Challenge are for those Canadian business leaders who want to step up. As a Corporate Challenge participant, you are asked to commit to a $100 fundraising minimum prior to the event, over and above the registration fee (i.e. $500/team of 5 participants). Prizes will be awarded to the 3 teams who raise the most funds in donations and pledges. See registration rates for details.
As in previous years, registration will be available both online and by fax/email/mail. Registration fees may be paid by credit card, or by sending a cheque by mail.
For further information about registration, contact Threads of Life at steps@threadsoflife.ca or phone us at 1-888-567-9490.
Volunteers can include students looking for volunteer high school credit hours, local walk organizing committee members, on-site volunteers to help set up, tear down, help with lunches, registration, you name it. There are many ways you can make a difference.
Last year the Steps for Life walkers raised enough money to help us subsidize the costs of sending members of families experiencing a workplace fatality, life-altering injury or occupational disease to an annual Threads of Life Family Forum. We were able to cover the costs of registration, hotel accommodations and meals for families participating in the forums. The forums offer these families the opportunity to come together, remember their loved ones, share, and ultimately heal.
